2 September 2013 Monday
We had hotel breakfast before a long journey to Zambia Border.
A lot of vehicles queuing to cross the border.
Walking towards the nation borders
Approaching the river bank….
In front of us, the water way is border to 4 nations – Zambia, Nambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
We crossed over to Botswana using speed boat.
On one corner, container ferry servicing the waterway.
Arriving at Botswana…
On Safari Jeep to immigration office
Botswana Customs
and by law…. we had to wash out footwear.
The Safari Jeep ferried us to the Chobe River Jetty.
Had some light snack before setting off
Looking across the river…Yes… our first sighting of wild elephant. (2 of big 5)
and more wild elephant…. and another giant in the water.
More Hippo as they move ashore for sunbathing. Very friendly birdies quickly rest over them.
Zoom in on the giant….
A little further, two buffaloes with birdies around them.
There are varieties of birdies….managed to capture few.
I noticed an enemy of lovely birdies…slowly moving in the water…
And more camouflaged among the grass
This one came heads on to our cruise boat.
Another cousin of crocs.
Our cruise boat moved close to the opposite bank…
Three wild boars and deers
As the cruise boat move forward, thick dust came from behind the scrubs.
These elephants came for a cooling bath
Our guide thought that the elephants will move off quite quickly…. and indeed he was right… they strolled off shortly.
Others animals …
On our way back…. witness hundreds of buffaloes.
Our pictures on Chobe River Safari
We were transferred to a smaller boat for disembarkation. Pathetic as compared to professional photo safaris.
We had buffet lunch at Chobezi.
While having lunch, heard elephant trumpet on the opposite bank…
After lunch, we started our land Safari
It was very dry dusty road…
Guarded against dust.
We hit high ground far away from the river bank. Everywhere is dry earth and dry tree except for one.
Looking down to Chobe River
Noticed deer taking shelter under bushes.
Found Another group of deer feeding on dry twig.
Ran away as we came near.
More deer and antelope in the bushes
Drivers going slowly, looking out for more animals…spotted African monkeys.
Had a break at parking area and some cold drink…
“Africa for Real, Africa Forever”
and Vultures…(remind me A scene in Master of the Game by Sidney Sheldon)
After the break, we headed towards the bank of Chobe River…close encounter with elephant.
The driver trial far behind the elephants…as they headed to river side for some cool enjoyment.
More elephants and other animals were at the river bank.
and giraffes…
The animal had so much difficulties in bending down.
On our returned drive… more Giraffes
And these two leisurely stroll in front of our jeep…
It was completely dark by the time we arrived at Zambia Hotel. Had BBQ dinner with African music…. plus a very tasty turtle dessert.
End of Day 5 : A day that we always remember – a day with many first time encounter , a day that we felt as if living in the pages of National Geographic Magazine.
