4 September 2013 Wednesday
We checked out after breakfast. We were on our way to Pretoria. A stopover for shopping. The stores sell animals skins and horns.
According to owner, the animal heads are covered with real skin
My wife thought the lion look real. We should have brought one back to Singapore.
I had my vuvuzela. (Ever Since the World Cup in South Africa, I had always wanted to own a vuvuzela.)
And our most pricey purchase – a piece of Tanzanite. A zoisite found near Mt Kilimanjaro. I first saw the stone at Africa Jewel, an outlet near Malay Quarter. I immediately decided that it is a stone that we should own. Then we purchased a tiny piece at Heok Bay. I told my wife this piece is of reasonable size. I will get another 2 pieces on my next trip to Africa before I try to get out more intense violet out of this stone.
Arrive at Pretoria Voortrekker (=pioneer) Monument.
The compound is surrounded by wagon laager wall.
An uphill climb to the building
Our pictures in front of Voortrekker Monument.
Entering the building, the arched window glittered
Spectacular stray light.
There are many wall sculpture telling the history of battles of blood river and other historical past years.
while we did not gripped the historical significance, we thought it was a marvelous art piece.
More masterpiece.
On the central of the building is a marble block called Cenotaph – the inscription means : Us for You South Africa. It was said on 16 DEC, sunlight will focus directly on the center of this marble block.
Visitors gathered to catch the Ariel view of the block.
we took the lift to the top of building…
These stony channels look good…
Some pictures at the roof top edge of building.
Look down…
Last two pictures before leaving the attractions.
We had Pretoria City tour followed by Chinese lunch at Jasmine Palace before I dozed off on our long bus journey to Sun City.
Arriving at Sun City at around 1500 hrs.
checked into Hotel
The garden look peaceful and quiet
suddenly we noticed an intruder…
after a little wash up, we explored the resort…. man made lagoon.
close up on lagoon.
This part of resort is called bridge of times… ? ? ?
we explored the Casino…
It was relative quiet…
we had good dinner at Mugg and Bean. The chicken is exceptionally good.
End of Day 7 : Another day of low level activities except for sophisticated Voortrekkers Monument. I gripped 1% of the history our guide explained and 80% of the wonderful sighting of the building. We were told to rest well so that we can have Safari II.
