3 October 2014 Friday.
Our Flight took off at 2000 hrs. We had some good sleep and when we woke up…. we had New Zealand Southern Alps below us.
Then it was Christchurch…
4 October 2014 Saturday. The plane touched down at 1030 hrs…. and the custom check was relatively tight and slow… Collected our luggage and managed to clear custom after one hour.
The car rental company staff transferred us to their office. This car would be with us over the next 3 weeks of South Island exploration.
A very scenic drive to Kaikoura. First inland road and then coastal drive.
It was nearly 1400 hrs… we arrived at the i-SITE office and collected our entry Tickets. A short drive and we were at Seafest.
Open field crowded with locals…. a day for picnic, gathering and enjoyment.

and look who was performing…Its very entertaining and friendly turtles.

1600 hrs…. Bye Bye Seafest…. very enjoyable, relaxing and fun.

The drive to Hanmer Spring was equally Scenic.
A little stop over at Waiau. It is one of the most beautiful place I had been to.
It was evening when we arrived at Hanmer Spring….Sunset, snow capped mountains, green grassland, meandering rivers… everything was so beautiful here.
We checked into Herrogate Gardens Motel.

End of Day 1 : A long flight to Chrishchurch, followed by a long drive to Kaikoura. Engrossed ourselves in very enjoyable Seafest. Another scenic drive to Hanmer Spring. The landscape is spectacular. Sunny evening with air temperature of 5 deg C.
A quick dinner, washed up … and ZZZzzz.
