6 Oct 2014 Monday.
We woke up to realise our cottage was sited right on top of Harris Hill, has stunning view over Nelson.
A light rainbow hanged over Nelson
the other end of rainbow in the distance Horizon
Started our morning with drives up Takaka Hill. It was mixed of sunlight and light rain. We could see some faint rainbow in the valley.
Just before the summit….we caught this wonderful sight. Stunning double rainbow hanging over the Takaka Valley. Very Intense and extremely nice and seem so wonderfully close to us. We thought we were extremely lucky and blessed.
We lingered for a long while before moving on. Shortly after Collingwood, it was the sandy view of Farewell Spit. As far as our eyes could see, it was like infinity stretch of wet sands.
Approximately two kilometer of gravel road before we reach the parking area of Warariki beach. As we got off the car, we were swept by cold rain and very aggressive wind.
We had to walk through a stretch of private farmland. Crossing into the farmland.
From the summit….
The wind was aggressive from this point, while the ground was undulating. Overall, it was dangerous and at some point we had to stop to prevent being blown off.
Spotted this interesting milk feeding scene on a 45 degree slope.
Keep up with a smile while facing the cold wind.
We finally exit the farmland onto a quiet creek before the beach. What a relief. This place was sheltered from the wind.
Caught a glimpse of the Warariki Beach…I thought it was scary.
Here the sand flew like liquid…
Everywhere is liquid sand
A video clip of the beach…. the wind was deafening…
Our Pictures…
Wharariki Beach – a very scary and memorable experience for both of us. It was another long stretch of difficult walk back to the car park. We had to stop several time fearing that we may be blown downhill. After the hard windy battle, we drove to Onekaka and had lunch at Onekaka Mussel Inn.
Very comfortable with warm fire place behind us.
Very Cosy Little Inn
We had two big portions of mussels. Warm succulent and extremely tasty.
After a warm break, we drove off to Pupu Spring. It boasted the world clearest fresh water. Clarity of 60m. (The current record holder is Tasman Blue Lake with clarity of 80m)
While it was still drizzling, the bottom of the spring remain visible.
On our way back…. stopover at Fresh Choice Supermarket.
Delicious Dinner with Rose Wine
End of Day 3 : Takaka Rainbow was one of the best I had ever seen. Spectacular and we felt was a blessing for us. Wharariki Beach was a very scary and memorable experience. Delicious mussels at Onekaka and another blessing at Pupu Spring to see one of the clearest spring water in the world. Finally Delicious Home cooked steak by Chef Regine.
